Shrine Maidens and the Silent Princess

Since the calamity’s destruction, most believed the Silent Princess to be extinct. It would take years for maidens to discover its existence beginning to sprout in the Forest of Spirits. Each flower found received regular documentation and monitoring. Although the flower isn’t domesticated, maidens encourage their growth in the wild among the shrines they protect. They clear unnecessary

growth and weeds while ensuring sunlight and water are accessible. High Priestesses have been the most successful cultivators of the Silent Princess. With the assistance of higher spiritual energy, the flower tends to thrive in the Hyrule Forest and springs of the triforce. Their efforts have lessened the possibility of extinction. The Silent Princess remains a symbol of the resilience and love of Hylia.

The maiden’s ceremonies and celebrations include this precious flower. New maidens are given the rare bud at their graduation. They are to plant the young princess in the wild wherever seen fit. This signifies the start of their journey and connection to the land they are entrusted to protect. Anyone who wishes to marry a shrine maiden follows the tradition of adventuring into nature in search of a Silent Princess to present to her. Their love is sworn over this flower and is planted near the couple’s home. To show appreciation to a maiden’s devotion, a person or community may present a Silent Princess as tribute. The flower is humbly taken and carefully cared for at a shrine. When a maiden retires, she is given a Silent Princess to commemorate her sacred work. At the time of her funeral, this flower is prayed over by the community and buried alongside the maiden.
