Itsuki, Yonezawa

26 y/o

Male

Local yakuza

Yonezawa’s young life was far from loving and nurturing. His father left him and his mother when he was 2; Probably because of how much she was to handle. His mother wrestled with drug addiction until she ODed when her son was 10. She survived the overdose, but Itsuki was taken out of her care. Through the rest of his young years, he bounced through foster care and families. He was barely in school, would usually run away within days of being placed somewhere, and never sought out his mother. After some pursuing and persuading Yonezawa was pushing and running drugs for small gangs in exchange for food, shelter, and small amounts of money in his teens. He was a kid with no family ties to cut. Drugs were nothing new.  His quiet loyalty and quick turnaround made him a reliable mule. And with this newfound way of life, he survived on his own. By 15, he was a regular. Being so young he understood no one respected him; he was just good for work. He accepted what he saw as his temporary duty of underling. However, his subdued observations gave him insight. And the world of organized crime began to unfold before him.

Adolescence turned to young adulthood. Yonezawa grew from a skinny 16-year-old to a stout 20-something. School never held interest. Instead, he studied the inner workings of gambling, extortion, and blackmail. Now, with years of experience and a budding aptitude for organization, Yonezawa was given more responsibilities. He oversaw small illegal casino operations and drug trade answering to Ito, a local boss in the district. He recognized the younger’s rising talent and began endowing his success.

It took little time for Yonezawa to rise to one of Ito’s trusted colleagues. The young man’s advice reaped benefits for business. Seeing his riches inflate, the boss’ greed began to simmer. He devised a plan to seize power from the fuku-honbucho of their region with Itsuki as his centerpiece. The plot convinced his small group Ito would make them more money than the current local administration. As always, Yonezawa remained quiet and appeared to support his superior; An intention was soon gaining reality.

Weeks went by. Then months. Elaborate arrangements were made to corner and kill Adachi, their local administrator. Disdain grew for their senior. Ito spilled hate and rumors about injustice and unfair pay within his clan. He felt powerful enough to take down the man who stood in his way of riches. So when Ito felt the time was right, he sprang his trap against Adachi. But nothing could prepare the arrogant man for what would happen next. His plan was completely foiled by the person he trusted to pull all the strings. Yonezawa. From the beginning, he found Ito unfit to lead. He wasted material and manpower, which lost money. Profits were lost due to his ill temper and lack of negotiation. And Itsuki was done cleaning up his mess. So when Ito decided to betray his executive, he saw the perfect opportunity to take more. Yonezawa met Adachi and explained to him the plot meant to take his life. For months he calmly acted as though Ito would receive everything he wanted. All the while knowing it would be his downfall.

Ito and his followers were killed that night. For saving his fuku-honbucho’s life and presenting himself as a loyal and capable replacement, Yonezawa was made an official member of Inagawa-kai and given his former boss’ territory. Ito and his men were called out as an example of what would happen should treason arise. Yonezawa accepted his new role with the same gracious silence he always carried himself with. It would only take weeks to prove he was more than talk. Profits began to surge. Deals were made swiftly and with less squabble. Yonezawa’s years of preparation and reticent learning shined. By the end of the year, Adachi grew thankful he’d had reason to do away with his less savvy associate.

By 26, Yonezawa settled into his life of organized crime. He ran a tight business of illegal gambling and drug dealing. Two years have passed. Many forgot about Ito and thought it was better that way. Yonezawa controlled more than he had by now. He patiently waits for the opportunity to grasp more.
